At the beginning, the students of the Faculty of Dentistry have studied dental and general radiology in the Radiology Department of the Faculty of General Medicine of the Cantacuzino Hospital, where Prof. Dr. Birzu, Prof. Dr. Butnaru si Prof. Dr. Grancea were, in turn, heads of department.
In 1962, a radiologist of impeccable professional probity was moved from the Cantacuzino Hospital to the Clinical Hospital of Dentistry, Clinic of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, being assigned to ensure the training in radiology for dentistry students. We are talking about Senior Lecturer Dr. Mihai Radulescu, the author of the first book of dental radiology in Romania (along with Prof. Dr. Valerian Smith), published in two editions, in the early 80s.
In 1993, it was established the Department of Dental Radiology of the Faculty of Dentistry, under the management of Prof. Dr. Sorin Login, until his retirement in 2009, when management of the Department of Dental and General Radiology was taken by the Lecturer Dr. Dragos Epistatu .
The discipline of Dental and General Radiology has 2 components:
- General Radiology, which operates within the Imaging Service of the Aviation Medicine Center, Central Military Hospital, where there are performed diagnostic imaging exams for many specialties (surgery, internal medicine, dentistry, cardiology, ENT, etc.
- Dental Radiology, located on the ground floor of "Dr. Dan Theodorescu " Clinical Hospital, has an associated private imaging clinic which performs specific dental imaging examinations.
