The history of the current dermatology discipline begins in the ‘50s. Defining personalities of Romanian dermatology mark the evolution of our discipline: Prof. Scarlat Longhin, Prof. Pavel Vulcan, Prof. Alexandru Dimitrescu, and Prof. Justin Diaconu, in chronological order.

In a first stage, in the clinic only resident training activities, improvement courses, medical and research activity were performed. After 1990, within the clinic teaching activity started being carried out, as well, with the students of the Faculty of Dentistry.

From the ‘50s up to the end of 2011, the clinic was located in the building of the Clinical Dermatology Hospital, located at 216 Șerban Vodă St., and from 2012, after the retrocession of the plot of land, in the B1 pavilion of the „Dr. Victor Babeș” Clinical Hospital, located at 281 Mihai Bravu St.

The discipline carries out its activity in a clinic with 40 continuous admission beds and multiple ambulatory consultation offices. In the clinic, about 150 continuous admissions are made monthly, as well as numerous day admissions, checks and derived medical activities: minor surgery, skin biopsies, sample collection, dermatoscopy.

The pathology is diverse, from various allergic diseases, benign and malignant skin tumors, bullous diseases, trophic ulcers, covering practically the entire range of interests of the specialty. Special attention is given to identifying, treating and preventing STIs as well.

  • Dermato-venereology lectures for the students of the Faculty of Dentistry, with emphasis on oral and cervical pathology.
  • Practicums are carried out in the hospital. Students have the chance to deepen the knowledge gathered from the lectures by contact with admitted patients and participating in checks.
  • Dermatoscopy
  • Skin histopathology
  • Starting with the autumn of 2016, students of the faculties of Medicine and Dentistry have a shared dermato-venereology textbook

Residents carry out their activity directly, with the help of advisors, take part in lectures, scientific events and weekly case presentations.
