Pharmaceutical Physics has been included in the curricula, since 1857, at the National School of Medicine and Pharmacy. Some of the holders of this University course were personalities of the Romanian science, as they were also doctors: chemist, physicist and a mathematician named Emanoil Bacaloglu, as physicists Constantin Miculescu, Ioan Gh. Popescu and Dumitru Stefanescu.
Pharmaceutical physics has had the priority objective the emphasis of those elements of practical physics in order to be integrated in the development of the pharmaceutical research.
Between 1972 and 1978 the discipline was led by the senior lecturer Doctor engineer chemist Stefan Velea. He led the activity of the faculty towards the research of supersonics, analytical ultracentrifugation and also its preparation, the control the purity of medicinal products by RES and RMN. He also has set up a nuclear unit for activities with sources closed.
Studies about extracting the active principles of plants under the action of the ultrasound have continued, and also other studies about pollution and natural radioactivity atmospheric pressure have been made.
From 1984 the physicist doctor Corneliu Georgescu took over as head of the discipline, and began new practical, he insisted on a rational logical interpretatio of the notions, on linking them, highlighting permanent links which exist between the discipline of Pharmaceutical Physics and the rest of the main subjects in the faculty.
At present, the discipline is led by prof.dr. Doina Draganescu.
Professor C. Georgescu 's aim was, since the beginning of his activity, to contribute to the research activity of the Faculty of Pharmacy, having numerous interdisciplinary collaborations, as the ones with the discipline Pharmacodinamy for the development of methods and new equipment for pharmacological testing. Following this, he has obtained a number of six appliances assisted by a micro-computer continuously (two patents for invention and four for innovation). In 1986, professor C. Georgescu was preoccupied with the introduction of the informatics in pharmaceutical products research. He set up a cabinet informatics for the initiation of students and held lectures with themes about the use of microcomputers.
Regarding the discipline of Informatics, it has been established, at the request of the students, in 1990( professor C. Georgescu was named the senior lecturer /year II, the first semester of the year). The analytical programs have been reviewed and improved annually, in the limit of the budget. In 1995, the course "Applications of Computer Science in the pharmaceutical field" was initiated, intended for all pharmaceutical specialities existing in the syllabus residency. In 1997 he edited the course of "Initiation in informatics".
