  • The innovative partnership with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila” in Bucharest (UMFCD) through the Center for Innovation and e-Health continues this year.

BUCHAREST, ROMANIA, 6 OCTOBER 2022 – The 6th edition of Hackathon4Health, organized by Johnson & Johnson Romania, in partnership with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila” in Bucharest (UMFCD) through the Center for Innovation and e-Health and with the Association of the Society of Medical Students in Bucharest, will take place between October 28-30, 2022. The event will unfold in a hybrid format, in Bucharest, with physical participation at Mindspace Pipera and online, through its platform https://hackathon4health.ro/

An initiative of Johnson & Johnson Romania, organized annually since 2017, Hackathon4Health brings together experts from various branches of healthcare, from healthcare professionals to representatives of academia and business, authorities, medical and hospital service providers, medical students and other specializations, technical experts and representatives of patient associations, along with the participating teams that will develop innovative digital solutions during the 48 hours of the hackathon.

In this edition, the proposed topics are:

  • Prevention and treatment of patients in oncology, hematology, immunology, and multiple sclerosis specialties.
  • Mental health and improved quality of life.
  • Medical devices of the future.

Each project developed within Hackathon4Health has the role of accelerating the digital progress in health and innovation in this field in Romania.

“Hackathon4Health 2022 is an initiative recognized and anticipated every year by role players in the healthcare sector, start-ups and the digital world in Romania. Through Hackathon4Health 2022 we offer, once again, the opportunity for solutions that can improve patients’ lives through accelerating digitalization in health.

We are extremely curious to see what ideas will enter the competition and which will be successful in winning the prestigious competition. The participating teams in the past editions have invested a great deal of passion and desire to change things for the better. Over the last 5 years many of the winning solutions have become successful medical start-up projects working for the benefit of patients in Romania.

Digital progress can only be achieved through access to state-of-the-art ideas, that are supported through mentoring and financial support. We at Johnson & Johnson will continue to support those solutions that can change the trajectory of the medical and health field in Romania” says Christian Rodseth, Managing Director Janssen Greece, Poland and Romania.

“Hackathon4Health was and is a concrete support for the development of the digital ecosystem in the field of health in Romania. For me it is an enormous joy to see that this project has reached its 6th edition and that offers, again, the chance for the most ingenious projects to come to life. Each edition is eagerly awaited by students, who thus have access to valuable resources for their development, can interact with specialists from the medical, tech and business worlds, and, last but not least, have a real chance to finance their projects with concrete impact in improving the quality of patients’ lives.”, said the Rector of “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Prof. Dr. Viorel Jinga.

From Friday to Sunday, the participants of the Hackathon will work in groups and will benefit from the help and coordination of their mentors, experts, and professionals in the field of health, academic, entrepreneurial, IT&C, members of patient associations, as well as representatives of the authorities, who will help them develop their ideas to an implementable level.

On the last day of the competition, all teams will present their projects in front of the jury and only three of them will be declared winners. Each winning team will receive from Johnson & Johnson Romania a pre-seed funding of USD 10,000 for the development and implementation of the project. Furthermore, for 6 months after the end of the Hackathon, the teams will benefit from support in the implementation of their project for a period of 6 months, under the tutelage of the company and of the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest (UMFCD) through the Innovation and eHealth Center.
