The clinical ophthalmology section offers the entire range of surgical ophthalmological procedures:
- ataract surgery
- surgery for glaucoma
- corneal transplant
- vitreoretinal surgery
- refractive surgery – approximately 4500 interventions per year
Various forms of laser treatment are also offered:
- capsulotomy
- iridotomy
- photocoagulation
Any paraclinical ophthalmologic investigation may be performed:
- biomicroscopy
- autorefractometry
- tonometry
- corneal pachymetry
- computerized perimetry testing
- oculo-orbital echography
- ultrasonic biomicroscopy
- optical coherence tomography
The clinical ophthalmology section hosts approximately 40 ophthalmological residents, both romanian and foreign, during various years of study. Residents attend theoretical courses and a weekly session of either clinical case presentations or discussion about scientific articles.
Likewise, residents specializing in occupational medicine, plastic surgery, neurosurgery and diabetes must also attend an ophthalmological module.
During each academic year, at least one series of students from UMPh Carol Davila will attend the ophthalmological module. Students from UMPh Carol Davila may also conduct their summer practice at the clinical ophthalmology section.
The clinic is currently conducting the ophthalmological examinations for a clinical study taking place in a neurology clinic. It is also actively implicated in the organization of the National Congress of Ophthalmology and contributes projects to any scientific events hosted by the Central Military Universitary Emergency Hospital Dr. Carol Davila. Each year, 20-30 research papers are produced and 10-15 of them are published.
Currently one course is offered to students.
It consists of 8 lectures and 8 practical lessons.
Lectures take place in the amphitheatre of the specialty’s ambulatory area, generally beginning at 8:30 AM; modifications may occur; the seria leaders should contact the teaching personnel a few days before the beginning of each module to check the current situation.
Practical lessons take place in the ophthalmological clinical section – surgical pavilion, 6th floor – generally after the lecture.
Currently, the clinic does not conduct any doctoral studies.
