Since 1997 the University Department of geriatrics, in the department of geriatrics-gerontology of U.M.F. ,,Carol Davila" has grown fiercely, getting involved as coordinator of Tempus Phare ROMGER SJEP 12507, funded by the EC in the FP% for:

1. academic recognition of the specialty of geriatrics-gerontology in Romania and creation of the first specialized University Clinics at the National Institute of Geriatrics and Gerontology,, Ana Aslan "
2. The creation of the first University College (short) Geriatrics, Gerontology and Social elderly U.M.F. ,, Carol Davila "
3. Syllabus creation and curricula in geriatrics, gerontology and Psychogeriatrics in the European consortium represented by geriatric clinics in Sweden, France, Greece, Spain, Italy and Malta.

Medical teams are comprised of professionals in the field: doctors with two or three specialties (internal medicine, geriatrics gerontology, Gerontopsychiatry, psychiatry, neurology, gastroenterology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, cardiology, etc.) and multiple competencies (laser therapy, imaging, ultrasonography echo-doppler, etc.), psychologists, doctors, research nurses with university, specialized in geriatric nurses and social care of the elderly, physical therapists, etc.

Medical personnel is qualified and trained through courses and hours of continuing medical education in the country and abroad, with most events being organized with the scientific support of the Department of Geriatrics and Gerontology University, through affiliation to professional associations in the field. Therefore, patients benefit from implementing tools and the latest medical procedures used effectively in preventive and curative interventions.

Healthy aging has become the ultimate desideratum of international health policy and the community of scientists worldwide. Unfortunately memory diseases affecting the majority population over 60 years, so the risk of permanent loss of quality of life through physical disability and mentally is huge, given that these specialized centers in Romania are in the pioneering stage. Only at that time in his life saw or cared for someone understands drama patients and carers, as well as highly specialized services offered to these patients and their families.
