Coltea Hematology Clinic is the youngest clinic of the oldest hospital in Bucharest. Hematology Clinic was founded in Coltea Hospital in 1993. Teaching started with a nucleus of young doctors under the leading of Professor Delia Mut Popescu MD, experienced a continuous and intense development, diversification and improvement of teaching methodology, exacerbating practical training for future specialists.

For continuing training of young medics (students, residents) teaching materials were developed, along with numerous scientific papers, promoting new concepts in hematologic thinking, systems analysis and monitoring of patients after the example of the most renowned clinics and laboratories world, placing the Department of Hematology of Hospital Coltea valued at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila". Professor Anca Roxana Lupu  MD (born 1954) leading the discipline since 2004, graduated as valedictorian in 1970 the  Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest being Doctor in Medical Sciences in 1996. Primary Physician in Internal Medicine (1990) and Clinical Hematology (1998). She is the president of the Romanian Society of Hematology and Vice President of the Romanian Society of Haemostasis.

In Hematology Clinic of Hospital Coltea patients suffering from diseases of all hematologic pathology field are cured. However, the most common pathology is that of haematological malignancies (acute and chronic leukemias, lymphoproliferative syndromes, myeloproliferative, myelodysplasias).

The clinic has a capacity of 50 beds for continuous hospitalizations and a day care sector. Since 2014 the Clinic operates a Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation, 5 beds, where they performed procedures such as hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for patients with hematologic malignancies. Also in the Coltea Hospital Hematology Clinic and Hematology Laboratory investigations, morphology and cytochemistry, immunophenotypings, hemostasis, immunology, cytogenetics and molecular biology are performed.

In the Department of Clinical Hematology Coltea run hematology courses and internships according to the syllabus for students in the sixth year of UMPh Carol Davila. The practical activity for students includes the presentation of clinical cases and visits to the patients hospitalized in the Hematology Clinic and laboratory practical work (morphology and haemostasis). It also runs a number of optional courses for students in years IV-VI. An important activity is research in order to elaborate bachelor degrees.

Besides the activities of medical students education the clinic is developing theoretical (classroom, present case presentations of data from the literature) and practical activities (clinical activity and laboratory) for residents in specialties of clinical hematology, laboratory medicine, internal medicine, oncology, infectious diseases, gastroenterology.

The clinic also teaches postgraduate training courses for specialists and primary physicians in various specialties.

Special attention is given to doctoral studies, currently being underway 6 PhD themes under the leading of Professor Anca Roxana Lupu MD.

The team of the department is actively involved in educational projects of UMPh Carol Davila, Romanian Society of Hematology, the Romanian Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, College of Doctors through constant participation with papers, courses, lectures.

In terms of research, the discipline team has sustained activities in multiple projects involving medical research, postdoctoral projects and clinical trials. The research results are the participation and presenting of scientific papers at national and international professional events and publishing articles in magazines of hematology laboratory in Romania and abroad in ISI or other BDI.
