The Medical Biophysics Course is destined to first-year General Medicine students and takes place over one semester; it comprises a 2-hour course and an 3-hour practical course per week.

The course is valued at 4 credits.

Within the Medical Biophysics discipline, students are co-opted into research projects and graduates into graduate programs.

 Current research directions of the Discipline:

  • the study of some chemical and physical factors’s effects on cell proliferation
  • the study of the celular and membranar effects of polyphenols (quercetin, epigallocatehin gallate), pf menadione, doxorubicin and that of mitochondrial respiration inhibitors (rotenone, antimycin A) using spectrofluorometric AYand flow cytometry methods.
  • calcium cellular signals monitoring ;  calcium channel ryanodine receptor and inositol triphosphate  receptor activity, molecular mechanisms to regulate the receptor’s activity ;
  • determining the cell’s viability, its apoptotic/necrotic fraction, its cell cycle phases distribution, its intracelullar calcium concentration, its mitochondrial depolarization degree, or its oxidative stress degree using fluorescent indicators in spectrofluoriometry or flow cytometry;
  • mathematical modelling of the enzymatic mechanisms which regulate the cell cycle

  • studies of the electrical and mechanical properties of artificial lipid membranes in various conditions using BLM/SSMmethods
