DESCRIEREA PROIECTULUI:

The @SOLACE Project was showcased at the @European Parliament in discussions hosted by MEP @Nicholas Papandreou on the future of lung cancer screening across Europe.

Key discussions included how countries are implementing targeted screening pilots, using mobile units to reach remote areas, and the development of new EU guidelines that will help more countries roll out life-saving screening programmes.

As a SOLACE partner, UMFCD is proud to be part of this important work to make early detection accessible to everyone who needs it across Europe.

World No Tobacco Day

Tobacco-related harm affects people unequally. Those at higher risk often face the greatest barriers to care.

On World #NoTobacco Day, we spotlight the work of @SOLACE Project in supporting access to smoking cessation and lung cancer screening services for those most affected – including people who smoke, workers exposed to carcinogens, and low-income communities.

We are developing inclusive pathways to screening and integrating these efforts with broader prevention strategies.

 European Week Against Cancer

This week, the @SOLACE Project will share stories highlighting how our partners are improving access to lung cancer screening across Europe – in multiple languages, with diverse voices and perspectives.

These videos showcase how #SOLACE is working to reduce cancer inequalities and improve outcomes through collaboration and innovation.

 European Public Health Week

15 May theme: Health Equity and Social Determinants of Health
This week is European Public Health Week, with Thursday’s focus on health equity.

The @SOLACE Project is working to reduce disparities in lung cancer screening by engaging communities often left out – including over 5,000 people reached so far through targeted outreach.

To better reach individuals in historically underserved groups, such as those experiencing poverty, ethnic minorities and remote communities, as well as occupational medical staff, we are:
• Developing tailored, culturally relevant materials
• Working with trusted community leaders
• Supporting equitable access to early diagnosis

Screening should be available to all – no matter their background or postcode.

Consortium and Steering Committee in person meeting, Prague

We look forward to joining fellow @SOLACE Project partners in Prague on 15–16 April for the project’s 2025 consortium meeting. This will be a valuable opportunity to discuss progress, share expertise and shape the future of lung cancer screening in Europe.

With the project entering its final phase, collaboration is more important than ever to ensure screening programmes reach those who need them most.

It’s a key moment to review progress and shape the future of lung cancer screening in Europe.

International Day of Action for Women’s Health

On International Day of Action for Women’s Health, we shine a light on a major gap: lung cancer screening for women.

Women are less likely to participate in lung cancer screening, resulting in later diagnoses and poorer outcomes. Through the @SOLACE Project, we are:
• Raising awareness of this issue

  • Working to ensure women are not left behind in cancer prevention efforts

It’s time to close the gap. Learn about #SOLACE: https://europeanlung.org/solace/

On International #Roma Day, we highlight the barriers Roma communities face in accessing life-saving care like #LungCancer screening.

Through #SOLACE, we provide culturally relevant information and empower community leaders to raise awareness. More info: https://europeanlung.org/solace/

Access to healthcare should not depend on where you live or your background. Yet, many Roma individuals in Croatia and Hungary face significant barriers to life-saving lung cancer screening, from lack of information to difficulties accessing care.

On International #Roma Day, we spotlight our work as part of the SOLACE Project, which engages hard-to-reach populations like the Roma community to ensure screening is accessible, trusted and tailored to their needs.

Alongside #SOLACE project partners, we:

  • Provide clear, culturally relevant information about lung cancer screening
  • Use trusted networks and direct outreach to improve participation

Every community deserves equal access to early detection. Learn about the SOLACE Project:

https://europeanlung.org/solace/

Exciting news! SOLACE will be presented at the #ECR2024, on 29 February and 2 March.

Implementing lung cancer screening programmes in Europe (SOLACE Project)

⏰2 March, 16:00 – 16:30 CET

Studio session: SOLACE Insight: Strengthening Lung Cancer Screening Across Europe with Prof. Helmut Prosch

World Health Day

Lung cancer screening can prevent avoidable deaths by providing women earlier access to diagnosis and treatment, improving outcomes. However, women remain underrepresented in these life-saving programmes.

As part of the SOLACE Project, we are working to:

  • Improve access to lung cancer screening so more women can benefit from early detection
  • Raise awareness and empower women to take control of their lung health
  • Make sure no woman is left behind in the fight against lung cancer

From healthy beginnings to healthy futures, every woman deserves access to high-quality care at every stage of life.
